I reimagine the natural world through materials and processes which aim to capture a sense of beauty and nostalgia for our mountain environments. My photographs are just the beginning of my art practice, the base of what I prefer to build on, add to, or subtract from, and manipulate into more profound expressions of the world around me.
I grew up in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia and moved to Colorado, USA when I was 15; Hiking and skiing in the Colorado Rockies inspired me to explore more mountain environments. I have since lived and worked in Lake Louise, Japan, eventually settling in Whistler. I received a BFA from Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design and became more focused on material exploration and concepts like 'transformation' through the digital arts, printmaking and sculpture. Some of the many combined techniques I preferred were: transferring and burning digital photographs onto hand-built ceramic vessels, hand-built lightboxes illuminating my images, forest illuminations and digitally collaged wall decals. I currently explore paper collage, photography, mixed media and digital applications. These techniques aim to achieve vibrant, dreamlike landscapes the viewer's eye can move through and feel a sense of nostalgia, wonder or calm.
In 2007 I settled in Whistler B.C. Canada. I create custom originals and archival prints on museum-quality materials.
My works are in private collections across North America.
I donate monthly to Protect Our Winters Canada (POW) in memory of Marcus Young 1973-2015 POW was founded in 2007 by professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones and is a community of athletes, scientists, creatives and business leaders advancing non-partisan policies that protect our world today and for future generations. "We help passionate outdoor people protect the places and lifestyles they love from climate change."
